Please bring to the next class a full-size “raw” photo (on your laptop or on a flashdrive) that works with the subject of your topical blog to edit in Photoshop. It should be a photo you’ve taken, not one that you’ve downloaded from the web. You’ll work on this in class this week.
For this assignment, you’ll prepare and save four different versions of your photo for use in upcoming assignments:
Version 1 (3 points): Use Photoshop to prepare your photo (crop, resize, adjust levels, color balance) and save it for the web. Use this version of your photo to illustrate a blog post on your blog. Size: under 100 k.
Version 2 (3 points): Use Photoshop to prepare your photo (crop, resize, adjust levels, color balance) and save it for a print project to be completed in Adobe InDesign. Size: 144-300 k.
Version 3 (2 points): Apply a filter to your original photo. Experiment — have some fun with it! You’ll use this photo in your final project. Size: 300-500 k.
NEW! Version 4 (2 points): Bring in a photo that has a problem … and fix it. Remove an intruding elbow (remember the food kiosks shot?), replace a “too busy” background, stamp out some zits on someone’s face, etc. We’ll review how to do this in class.
Please take notes as you prepare and save the three different versions of your original photo, and as you fix and save your “problem” photo. You’ll write a detailed account of the steps you took to complete each of the photos listed above. This explanation will become part of your final project.
Email all four versions of this assignment (as attachments) to –> cynthia.fernald@sjsu.edu.
